Every Christmas Card I Write...

I'm a push-over for Christmas cards - specifically wonderful old cards. They're the best ones. We never purchase new cards each year, but instead send out used vintage cards, even if they're already written in. Simply sign your name under the previous sender just like you're endorsing a check. "Season's Greetings from Clyde and Flossie Humperdinck ... but mostly from Kevin!"

After years of mailing beautiful old cards out, never to be seen again (by us), we've begun scanning them first. Our Virtual Vintage Christmas Card File is looking mighty fine right now. I've just shared twenty of our favorites on the Miehana Flickr gallery. Check them out here.

Merry Christmas from Great-Grandma Schmickle - and me!

  2. Awesome, I wish everyone did this! I just gave a beautiful old card I had to friend signing my name after the original card givers name. I'd much rather receive hand made or pre-loved cards than all those soulless cookie cutter ones.

  4. Yep...leave it to Kevin and Jody to come up with a great idea before anyone else does.

  5. Barbra Streisand talked once about doing the same sort of thing at the start of her career, sans scanner, obviously. I always thought it was a marvelous idea. While cookie cutter cards are mostly awful, in this digital age, I'll take a cookie over another Faceybook "like"!

  6. Not only is a great idea, but I wish I had seen that "Vintage 1950s Christmas Card - Holiday Broadcast" a few weeks ago. I could've used that image in some of my Crazy Christmas Cavalcade "animations" I made for my blog this year. That card would have been perfect for something like this!

  8. Let's just say I've spent a good 3-4 hours today reading through the archives of your blog and clicking through pictures on Flickr. Incredible things!

Now, I'll be spending the next good portion of the evening trying to track down one of your Disneyland Ceramic Cups!

Thanks for all the sensational content!

  10. this is a FABULOUS idea - but I don't know how you can bear to part with some of them. They really don't make stationery - including xmas cards - the way they used to, at least not judging by the dreadfully bland cards *I* received this year.
