Original newspaper ad from the Independent Press Telegram, Long Beach, California, Friday July 15, 1955.
The pirate ship in this advertisement is actually the architectural scale model used in constructing the restaurant! Anyone know where that model is today??
That's a pretty sweet graphic: I'm trying to figure out where the original Chicken of the Sea mermaid was designed. I see touches of inspiration from certain artists but I'm pretty sure she was put together by an agency. Any insight?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, as soon as I saw the graphic, the jingle came flooding back to me! As a kid, I loved that jingle and sang it over and over, LOL.
ReplyDeleteI have some of the original fish plates from the restaurant, cool stuff!

I have to say I am not one for blogs Mr. Kidney. But I do think I am addicted. I never got to go on the pirate ship, but I think I would have endured a tuna sandwich just for the look around.

Might be a good base to work from.
Fun stuff as always. And congratulations on your wonderful model.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the interior murals, the cliffs and plants sure look like they were painted by Eyvind Earle...
I was recently digging thru some old boxes of souvenirs, and i found the containers that i saved from the Pirate Ship meatball sandwich. If you'd like it, i'd like to give it to you...
